October 18, 2019 – A global summit of city leaders held in Copenhagen last week included panels on environmentally sustainable streets and transportation emission reductions.

October 18, 2019 – Data from the newly released 2018 American Community Survey shows that telework continued its upward trend, while driving alone to work trended slightly downward. Several regions that had a reduction in the share of workers driving alone had a corresponding increase in biking and walking to work.
October 18, 2019 – A House hearing on transportation network companies mainly on safety and security of TNC users, but also covered discussed driver protections, equity, and the interface of the government and public agencies with private TNC companies.

October 17, 2019 – The Congressional Budget Office today released a new report which estimated that, if a nationwide VMT tax had been in use in 2017, it would have raised $2.6 billion for each cent-per-mile of the tax rate if applied to all commercial trucks, but that yield would have been cut to $1.6 billion for each cent-per-mile if the tax was only levied on combination (tractor-trailer) trucks.

October 17, 2019 – Policy making, planning, and decision-making tools that were designed for the past may not be appropriate for assessing and addressing current and projected capital and operational transportation and transportation-related issues. In February 2019 Eno Center for Transportation with support from Reason Foundation convened a three-day workshop at the Pocantico Conference Center to explore these questions of governance and institutional reform in the transportation sector. This week Eno released a report of the discussions at the Workshop to identify significant issues, areas of common concerns, and broad themes that emerged.

October 16, 2019 – The just-ended fiscal year 2019 appears to be the first year since 1988 where the year-end unexpended balance in the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF) was lower than the balance at the end of the previous fiscal year – but not by much.
