March 9, 2016 – Eno has launched a new reference page about public-private partnerships (P3s), including Eno’s past work as the P3 Working Group (now the Transportation Finance Working Group). The reference page provides a one-stop shop for transportation P3 resources, including research reports and technical assistance for state and local governments.
Eno has complied a full legislative history of the FAST Act and has also established a new FAST Act Reference Page as a one-stop-shop for information on the implementation of the law.
March 10, 2016 – The National Press Club held a luncheon on March 7 featuring Paul Wiedefeld, the general manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) since last November. This event follows a public plan recently released by Wiedefeld, as well as an editorial in the Washington Post. While the discussion focused on WMATA’s myriad problems, he took a pragmatic tone, acknowledging that issues have not been communicated properly to the public.

Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) recently announced that he planned to introduce an amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Bill mandating minimum sizes for aircraft seat width and pitch (the distance between rows). In February, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tennessee) proposed a similar measure. As someone who has worked in and near the airline industry since 1984, my first reaction was “this is classic Capitol Hill silliness.” Taking a closer look, the proposals reflect four shortcomings about how legislators and others in Washington look at commercial aviation.
