September 28, 2018 – On September 25, the Senate passed a bill setting standards for state mass transit safety oversight agencies (SSOAs) to use when investigating local transit agencies. The bill (S. 3139), called the Transit Rail Inspection Practices (TRIP) Act, passed by unanimous consent.
September 27, 2018 – On September 21, the USDOT announced the availability of new grants for two additional University Transportation Centers (UTCs). UTCs conduct research, provide education and workforce development, and deliver technology transfer to potential users. One of the centers will conduct research around “congestion relief” and one around “improving the durability and extending the life of transportation infrastructure.”
