January 4, 2010 – President Trump has nominated former NHTSA head Nicole Nason to be Federal Highway Administrator.
House Re-Elects Pelosi; Repeals “Ryan Rule” and Term Limits; Makes Highway Rescission Fix Easier
January 4, 2019 – Yesterday, the House of Representatives elected Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and passed a package of rules changes that include the abolition of term limits for committee changes and two budget changes with a bit effect on Highway Trust Fund spending.
Complete Senate Committee Rosters for 116th Congress Named
January 3, 2019 – Today, Senate Republicans released their proposed committee memberships for the 116th Congress, joining Senate Democrats, who had announced their proposed slates late last year. The new committee memberships will become official when ratified by Senate resolution this afternoon or tomorrow.
Senate Confirms 8 Transpo Nominees; Returns 11 to President
January 3, 2019 – Yesterday evening, consistent with tradition, the U.S. Senate confirmed a large package of pending nominations by unanimous consent (in this case, 75 civilian nominees plus 6 Coast Guard admirals). Among these were 8 transportation-related nominees. But this still leaves 11 transportation-related nominees pending on the Executive Calendar or in committee, all of which will be returned to the President after the Senate gavels out the final pro forma session of the 115th Congress just before noon today.

USDOT Makes $60 Million Available for Automated Driving System Demonstration Projects
December 21, 2018 – USDOT announced late Friday it will make up to $60 million in federal grant funding available for demonstration projects that test the safe integration of automated driving systems (ADS) on U.S. roadways.
FMCSA Issues Order Preempting California State Law on Trucker Meal/Rest Breaks
December 21, 2018 – At 5:15 p.m. today – the Friday before Christmas – the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced that it has determined that California’s state laws requiring minimum meal and rest breaks for truck drivers are preempted by federal hours-of-service laws. The determination by FMCSA came in response to petitions filed by the American Trucking Associations and the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association.
2018 BUILD Grants Maintain Proportion of Projects With Active Transportation Elements
December 20, 2018 – Of the 91 BUILD grantee projects announced last week, 27 of the projects (30 percent) include some element relating to bicycles, pedestrians, or complete streets.
