Op-Ed: To Fix Baltimore’s Transit System, Local Funding, Oversight Needed

By Robert Puentes

December 11, 2020 – As the nation’s public health crisis rages on, the Baltimore region’s buses remain busy transporting essential workers and residents who depend on it each day. Transit is literally a lifeline for those who need it to get to work, health care, grocery stores or day care centers. But the system is plagued by delays, breakdowns, and limited service to many parts of the region. The problem is, unlike almost every other transit system in the country, local Baltimore area officials do not have much of a say in how the transit network is planned, built, operated or funded.

December 11, 2020 – Perhaps we are still distracted by the election. Perhaps commuting patterns have changed so much that it is not as important. But unless you live in or around Cincinnati, you probably have not been following one of the biggest infrastructure disasters in recent years: the closure of the Brent Spence Bridge (BSB) in Cincinnati.

By Romic Aevaz, Paul Lewis

December 11, 2020 – To investigate the relative success and challenge of building transit, the Eno team created a database of projects including construction cost and timeline data for a total of 171 domestic and international rail transit projects completed over the past 20 years. For each project, factors such as number of stations, grade alignment, station spacing, and mode allow for deeper comparisons.

Guest Op-Ed: Agency-TNC Partnership Provides One Model for Improving Universal Access to Transit

December 4, 2020/

By Katherine Idziorek

December 4, 2020 – Transit agencies have increasingly been partnering with technology firms to create services that better serve the many people affected by mobility impairment. In some instances, private firms deliver first-mile service to transit stations that meet or exceed accessibility goals, as described in Eno’s recent report, Toward Universal Access: A Case Study in the Los Angeles and Puget Sound Regions. In other cases, such as in Marin County’s Connect2Transit program, the technology platforms have worked with agencies to develop a single app for all available services on the network that allow direct comparison of public and private transportation options for riders of all abilities.
