October 28, 2022 – The final Monthly Treasury Statement for fiscal year 2022 revealed that the U.S. Department of Transportation spent a net $113.7 billion in fiscal year 2022, an all-time high.

Marron Institute has been assessing “Why do transit-infrastructure projects in New York cost 20 times more on a per kilometer basis than in Seoul?” while Eno has been asking: “Why does the U.S. pay more than a 50 percent premium to build at-grade and tunneled rail projects?”

Higher Interest Rates Could Keep Highway Trust Fund Afloat Another Year After IIJA Expires

October 28, 2022 – When the Federal Reserve increases interest rates to fight inflation, the Treasury Department has to pass those higher rates on to the balances held by federal trust fund accounts like the Highway Trust Fund. And if any of those trust funds have artificially high balances, that interest can add up quickly.

Specific projects, programs, and priorities have been highlighted that demonstrate the need to upgrade, modernize, and maintain our nation’s infrastructure. Through that spending, the law also has the ability to support historically underserved communities and businesses.

October 20, 2022 – The volume of motor gasoline in the United States hit an all-time high in the just-completed fiscal year 2022, with oil companies producing and distributing about 6.8 billion gallons more than they did in the previous peak year of fiscal 2018.
