This week, the U.S. Senate began a procedure that will result in the likely confirmation of several more transportation-related nominees when Congress returns from recess the week of May 11.
The Senate on April 30 voted, 51 to 46, to invoke cloture on a special “executive resolution: (S. Res. 690) that, when adopted, will allow the Senate to confirm 49 nominees with one single vote.
Among those 49 nominees are:
- Daniel Edwards, to be Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Aviation and International Affairs.
- Seval Oz, to be Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Research and Technology.
- Michael Graham, to be a Member of the National Transportation Safety Board for a term ending December 31, 2030
- Richard Kloster, to be a Member of the National Transportation Safety Board for a term ending December 31, 2028.
- Robert Harvey, to be a Federal Maritime Commissioner for a term ending June 30, 2029.
The Senate will vote on adoption of S. Res. 690 at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11. Assuming it passes, then the Majority Leader can move that the Senate confirm all 49 en bloc nominees, there would be a cloture vote on that motion, and then a confirmation vote, all of which would be by simple majority.
