MARTA General Manager and CEO (and Eno Board Member) Keith Parker has been honored as one of Governing’s 2016 Public Officials of the Year. Parker joins seven other honorees who display above and beyond dedication to public service.
Governing is the nation’s leading publication for covering politics, policy, and management at the state and local level. Each year they select men and women from across the United States who are forging real solutions to community issues like housing, public transit, education, and healthcare.
Parker is honored for his work in revamping MARTA’s image and increasing ridership. Since taking his position as General Manager and CEO in 2012, MARTA launched a safety campaign on their trains and buses, decreased wait time, expanding service area, and balancing the agency’s budget. In Parker’s first year alone, MARTA ended the year with a $9 million surplus, instead of the predicted $33 million deficit.
“Keith is a friend and leader in the industry,” says Rob Puentes, President and CEO of the Eno Center for Transportation. “His hard work at MARTA and his commitment to metropolitan Atlanta is something to be celebrated. Congratulations to Keith Parker on this honor.”
