March 28, 2024 – Artificial intelligence (AI) is often in the news due to its increasingly sophisticated capabilities. These tools can be applied to solve problems previously unsolvable and reduce the time people spend on manual tasks, but there are also concerns about the use of new technology by public agencies because of the serious, consequential duties many of them perform.
March 25, 2024 – Exploring the transformative impact of the Safe System Approach, this innovative strategy emphasizes a shift towards proactive safety measures, resulting in substantial reductions in road fatalities. Spearheaded by state DOT leadership, the approach integrates advanced safety improvements and legislative efforts, marking a significant advancement in the commitment to achieving zero deaths on the roads.
March 28, 2024 – Throughout my years of service as a Naval Officer I was frequently reminded that experience matters. The same holds true in my current role as the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) Administrator.
March 26, 2024 – Yesterday, the Federal Highway Administration updated its quarterly index of highway construction costs, revealing that the cost index (the NHCCI) increased by 6.0 percent in the July-September 2023 quarter over the previous April-June 2023 quarter, an annualized rate of 23.9 percent per year.
March 28, 2024 – We all know women who have broken glass ceilings, won a seat at the table and found their voice to bring more women leaders to the workplace. As I reflect on Women’s History Month, however, I find myself asking, “Why isn’t it enough?”

Thursday, March 21st – The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit met for a hearing titled “Rural Transportation Challenges: Stakeholder Perspectives.” The subcommittee called on witnesses to provide insights from industry and local-level stakeholders on issues and challenges for rural transportation.
March 22, 2024 – The second fiscal 2024 “minibus” funding package, released early yesterday morning, contains the full-year appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security for fiscal year 2024.
