March 29, 2019 – It’s no secret a lot has changed since passengers first took to the sky, both in terms of regulation and operation, and not just when it comes to affordability. After years of progress, women are now in the cockpit and the boardroom, Elaine Chao heads the Department of Transportation (DOT), and women are making names for themselves in a previously male-dominated industry.
March 29, 2019 – Some critical questions businesses are asking themselves – especially those in the transportation sector – are: 1) How will automation affect our existing workers and the future of work, and 2) How can we facilitate the adoption of lifesaving technological advancements while also addressing the fears of those already working in these fields?
March 29, 2019 – The practice of ridehailing and carpooling, be it a taxi, Uber, or slugging, includes sharing a vehicle that is not your own, and sometimes sharing that asset and space with multiple other people who also do not own that vehicle. In order to maximize road and vehicle capacity, the transportation industry must identify ways to mitigate our natural aversion to sharing to maximize efficiency.
March 28, 2019 – The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee met March 27th to consider eight bills in a markup session, including bills to provide stopgap funding for the FAA and Coast Guard during government shutdowns.
March 28, 2019 – On March 26, USDOT published the list of applicants for the Automated Driving System (ADS) Demonstration Grants which were announced in December, 2018.
March 29, 2019 – On March 26, the House Aviation Subcommittee hosted a hearing, “The Cost of Doing Nothing: Why Investment in Our Nation’s Airports Matters.”
March 28, 2019 – The Senate subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies held a hearing on March 27 inviting Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao as a witness to review the FY20 budget request for USDOT.
