August 7, 2020 – If we hope to recover from the pandemic and build more equitable cities in the future, we should not overlook the role that public transit plays in public health.
August 7, 2020 – It is time for transportation professionals, and especially those working on Vision Zero programs, to throw out the traditional “E’s Approach.” The E’s are a relic of the traditional traffic safety approach, which has resulted in thousands of needless deaths and injuries. Vision Zero and the Safe Systems call for a new approach to traffic safety.

August 7, 2020 – This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the monthly jobs report for July 2020. The report shows a modest uptick in transportation construction and manufacturing jobs, along with significant gains in air and ground passenger transportation jobs (all versus June 2020).
August 7, 2020 – Last night, the U.S. Senate quietly passed a three-year pipeline safety reauthorization bill (S. 2299) by unanimous consent, without debate.
August 6, 2020 – New data from the federal government shows that not all airports and transit agencies needed the federal coronavirus aid provided by the CARES Act in March 2020 as urgently as others.
August 6, 2020 – This morning, the Treasury Department published the monthly report of Highway Trust Fund tax receipts for July 2020, and those numbers show the intake from the federal excise taxes on motor fuels and trucking rebounding to slightly above normal (July 2019) levels.
August 5, 2020 – The latest weekly production reports from the Energy Department show that the production of gasoline by U.S. refineries and blenders has stabilized at a level around 12 percent below last year’s production levels.
