For this contest, the theme is Coming Out of the Crisis: A Look Past the Pandemic. We are looking for essay contest submissions from both students and professionals. Submissions should be written as a persuasive op-ed, aimed to convince leaders that your recommendation for a policy, innovation, or best practice we should implement as we move from crisis to recovery is the right direction.

June 16, 2021 – On July 9, President Biden signed one of the widest-ranging executive orders of his Administration, EO 14036, “Promoting Competition in the American Economy.” It may have significant effects on the way the U.S. Department of Transportation manages airline competition and customer service, and urges federal regulatory commissions to examine freight rail and ocean shipping competition as well.

July 2, 2021 – House Budget Committee chairman John Yarmuth (D-KY) made it official this week: he is calling off his plans to have his panel mark up a fiscal 2022 budget blueprint in mid-July. Instead, the House will wait to see what, if any, budget plan can get 50 Democratic votes in the Senate.
