Letter from the Editor: Jannet Walker Ford

It is an honor and a pleasure to serve as the “Women Take Over” Eno Transportation Weekly guest editor for the second year. The 2024 edition curates an amazing group of writers and thought leaders in the transportation space.

Transportation is a fundamental part of our lives, and diversifying the workforce and leadership to best serve our communities is more important than ever before. There are challenges, but there are also opportunities.

Women continue to lead with integrity in building the systems we want to use now, and the systems that will serve us into the future.  In management, policymaking, planning, engineering, communications, technology development, federal leadership, and more, these women are modeling opportunities for the next generation to consider in all modes and all roles.

As we deal with shifting administrations, shifting funding priorities, and shifting decisions at the highest levels of our government, it is imperative we make wise policy decisions and financial investments to ensure success for the future. Success means economic growth, and the advancement of the traditionally underserved.

The voices being heard in our communities, in the federal government, and in the C-Suites of private companies, are growing louder… and those voices belong to us.

This week’s publication highlights some of those voices, allowing readers to learn about safety implementations, gender justice, digital infrastructure, innovative tech, and more.

The Eno Center for Transportation and WTS International should be applauded for their continual efforts in developing a more equitable, diverse, sustainable, accessible, and inclusive industry.

Thank you for reading today and recognizing and celebrating Women’s History Month!
