Greetings Eno Alumni!

The first six months of 2018 have been a busy time for Eno.  We moved to new offices, released two new papers, launched more alumni networking and continuing education resources, and welcomed 52 new Eno alumni into the fold.

On May 24^th, Eno wrapped up its 26^thannual Future Leaders Development Conference (LDC) by hosting the Leadership Awards Dinner. We hosted 20 of the best and brightest transportation graduate students from across the country in Washington, D.C. for a week of high-level insights into transportation policy. The week culminated with our Leadership Awards Dinner, recognizing Robert Poole from the Reason Foundation with the Thought Leader Award, Carolyn Flowers from AECOM with the Friend of Eno Award, and Matthew Rose from BNSF Railway with the Lifetime Achievement Award. We are so grateful to the friends, alumni, and sponsors who support the event and the program – your contributions make it possible to continue providing this transformative experience for these future leaders.

Eno continues to take an unbiased look at the future of the transit agency and the governance and operations systems that will enable them to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Following our recent paper on contracts operations, A Bid for Better Transit, Eno recently released a study on rail maintenance practices around the country. Recent high profile closures and disruptions of rail transit systems in major metropolitan areas (e.g. NYC, Baltimore, DC) prove that these systems need major track maintenance overhauls, but the real overhaul needs to be in how agencies conduct their asset management and maintenance programs.  Our paper, Tools for a Smoother Ride, found a consensus among dozens of public and private stakeholders and experts around the country that current asset management practices are inadequate to meet today’s maintenance challenges and makes recommendations about how transit agencies can meet those challenges.

We’ve also had some changes internally at Eno in the last few months.  Not only did we recently move to a new address on K Street, but our ranks have grown this spring with the addition of two new staff members, Brianne Eby as a Policy Analyst, and Alexander Laska as the new Communications Officer and Assistant Editor of Eno Transportation Weekly. In addition, So Jung Kim was selected as Eno’s Thomas J. O’Bryant Policy Fellow this summer.

Here at Eno, we are focused on improving the transportation industry and its leadership at all levels. Some of you may have joined our new Alumni Group on Facebook to connect with your peers or participated in one of our policy education or leadership skills webinars recently. As we continue to build these resources, we want to be sure to include you, our alumni, in helping us identify and deliver the content and resources you need.  To that end, Eno plans to expand the role of our Board of Regents to provide advice and support for our people development and continuing education programs.
