Last week Eno held it’s annual Transit Senior Executive (TSE) Program here in Washington, D.C. This year-long leadership program brings the top transit executives from around the country to learn from VIP guest lecturers and instructors, hone their leadership skills, and network with other industry experts. In it’s 11th year, the program has over 500 alumni, some of which returned this year to be guest speakers including Keith Parker, President and CEO of Long Beach Transit; Phil Washington, General Manager of LA Metro; Greg Kelly President and CEO, U.S., Central and South America Parsons Brinckerhoff; and Matt Welbes, Executive Director Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
Highlights:
Michael Melaniphy, President and CEO of APTA, spoke on his story and the leadership skills gained in his rise to APTA President and the challenges he faced along the way. Phil Washington, General Manager of LA Metro, spoke about organizational transformation relative to the big idea and culture. He told stories of the changing culture at Denver RTD and most recently at LA Metro. Jeff Boothe, President of Boothe Transit Consulting LLC, gave an update on what is happening on Capitol Hill right now and best practices for transit leaders to work with their local politicians and influence policies. Therese McMillan, Acting Administrator of the FTA, gave the keynote address during the graduation dinner on rise to her current position and the what the FTA has coming up.
Throughout the week students are engaged in small groups where they get down to the issues that face them every day back at the work place. They receive coaching from each other as well as the staff on how best to handle the challenges. This is a time where the groups get to open up and learn from one another.
