Tom has been instrumental in shaping MDOT MTA’s ongoing Core Bus performance monitoring program as a tool to identify successes and deficiencies as catalysts to make necessary service changes or adjustments. \nJeremy Strauss is a senior transportation planner at Foursquare ITP\, a multimodal transportation planning firm in Rockville\, MD. LA County Metro recently released a report\, “Understanding How Women Travel\,” in a first-of-its-kind effort to answer this question. Developing from Metro’s Women and Girls Governing Council\, this study aimed to collect data and offer findings that can help improve women’s safety and comfort on transit and attract and retain women to the Metro system. DESCRIPTION:Eno’s Aviation Working Group is a standing advisory group on all matters relating to aviation policy. The group provides Eno staff with insights\, knowledge\, feedback\, and guidance on how to approach some of the most challenging contemporary aviation issues. The goal of the group  is to \n(1) educate the public at large as well as policy makers as to the importance of the aviation industry to the U.S. economy; \n(2) identify the roadblocks to progress\, innovation\, and modernization; and \n(3) propose bold\, pragmatic policy solutions to help tackle those challenges. \nThe fall meeting will focus on Eno’s current project on UAS Integration. DESCRIPTION:New privately-run mobility services are now ubiquitous in many urban regions. While these services are private ventures\, companies and public entities can partner to deliver services that augment or enhance public transit. Of course\, public transportation agencies contracting with private entities for services is not a new concept. Agencies routinely form agreements for services\, ranging from information technology to station cleaning to bus and paratransit operations. Lessons and best practices for those traditional agreements abound. \nWhat is different with the new mobility on-demand (MOD) services is that they are often run by startup companies with different business models and expectations. Public agencies and MOD companies alike have limited experience contracting on these types of services.  In this webinar\, we will review Eno’s recent case study on the contracts for the MOD Sandbox pilot projects in the Los Angeles and Puget Sound regions. SUMMARY:Webinar: Analyzing Bus Ridership Decline
DESCRIPTION:Following six years of consecutive decline\, bus ridership in the United States attained its lowest level ever recorded in history last year. In this webinar\, Dr. Berrebi will explain reasons and potential solutions to this decline through analysis of passenger count data between 2012 and 2018 at 50\,000 bus stops in four cities: Portland\, Miami\, Minneapolis/St. Paul\, and Atlanta. Data show that in all four cities\, neighborhoods with high proportions of white residents lost ridership at the fastest rate. In Miami and Atlanta\, places with high concentrations of college-graduates also correlate with ridership decline. These results suggest that changes in the travel behavior of choice riders may explain the bulk of the decline. Dr. Berrebi will discuss the inelasticity between frequency and ridership and recommend service\, policy\, and infrastructure solutions for transit agencies. \nSpeakers:\nSimon Berrebi\, PhD\, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology\nAlice Grossman\, PhD\, Senior Policy Analyst\, Eno Center for Transportation \n\nDr. Simon Berrebi is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology\, where he conducts research on transit ridership. During his Ph.D.\, Simon developed a real-time dispatching method to avoid bus-bunching\, which was implemented on three high-frequency transit routes in Atlanta\, GA\, and San Antonio\, TX. He founded DynamicTime\, and software company helping transit agencies implement dynamic tools to improve operations. To do so\, America’s fleet of roughly 480\,000 school buses drives nearly 3.5 billion miles every year. More than half of students also travel to school in personal vehicles\, contributing millions of miles for school transportation. \nSchool transportation is often a necessity for students and families\, but daily trips to and from school have significant environmental effects for students and their communities. All of these vehicles emit millions of tons of greenhouse gases per year into the environment — contributing to global warming — and expose children to harmful pollutants that can affect their health and academic performance. \nIn a new policy brief\, “From Yellow to Green: Reducing School Transportation’s Impact on the Environment\,” Bellwether Education Partners analyzed how school transportation affects the environment and what steps states and districts can take to provide more environmentally friendly transportation services. Gwinnett County\, in the Atlanta Metro\, has designed a multi-phase microtransit expansion from 2019 through 2024 that reaches new areas geographically\, increases integration with ADA complementary paratransit service\, and facilitates more connectivity with fixed route service. This structured approach has been developed to leverage critical lessons from the pilot project to inform a longer-term and more seamless program\, both operationally and from the passenger perspective. Other aspects of integration\, such as fare payment and National Transit Database reporting\, have been incorporated. This webinar\, with the consultant supporting Gwinnett County’s approach\, will discuss post-pilot activity for microtransit\, specifically the integration of microtransit into the family of services a transit agency provides. \nSpeaker:\nJanae Futrell\, AICP\, LEED AP\, Founder and Manager\, Civic Sphere \nJanae’s work with Civic Sphere\, a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)\, focuses on leveraging technology for mobility and public transit. DESCRIPTION:Join Eno for a quarterly continuing education speaker series intended to help explore innovative specialized topics. Each quarter\, Eno will host a new speaker who is working on an innovative idea. The speaker will discuss their idea and then open the floor to the group for discussion and idea sharing. Alumni and members are encouraged to attend to learn about an innovative practice and exchange ideas and best practices. This is intended for a small group\, so participation is limited. \nThis quarter’s speaker will be Tina Quigley\, CEO\, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada on May 7th at 12:30pm EST on the topic of strategic partnerships with the private sector for innovative commuting solutions. \n \nTina Quigley\, CEO\, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada \nAs CEO of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada\, Tina Quigley knows what it means to think big. In a city of 2.1 million residents and 42 million annual visitors\, Quigley is at the forefront of visionary thinking and planning for the future. She recognizes that an enhanced multi-modal and technologically advanced transportation infrastructure will help ensure that Southern Nevada can continue to attract tourists\, residents and new business. She has embraced and pushed for sweeping technological advances; she has advocated for future planning; and she has built critical partnerships to well position the region for ongoing and sustained economic vibrancy. With more than 25 years of experience in air and ground transportation management and a licensed pilot herself\, Quigley leads the only agency nationwide that is responsible for a region’s public transit system\, traffic management\, roadway design\, construction funding\, transportation planning and administering Southern Nevada Strong\, the regional planning effort to build complete communities in the Las Vegas Valley – all under one roof.
