SUMMARY:Webinar: Retail at Train and Bus Stations: Innovative Strategies to Enhance Revenue\, Amenities\, Ridership\, and Safety
DESCRIPTION:At transit stations\, riders appreciate a wide variety of retail outlets from newsstands to restaurants. However\, the retail landscape is rapidly evolving due to a decline in transit ridership and a shift towards online purchasing. This webinar will show how innovative transit agencies\, property managers\, and developers are adapting to this changing retail climate – with strategies designed to enhance station amenities\, attract more riders\, improve safety\, and increase transit agency revenues. This webinar is jointly sponsored by the Eno Center for Transportation and the American Planning Association’s Transportation Planning Division. \nSpeakers:\nLaura Barr\, Senior Vice President\, CBRE\nCharles Di Maggio\, Chief Executive Officer\, Greystone Management Solutions\nSusan Fine\, Principal\, Fine Development Partners \nModerator:\nPhilip Plotch\, Principal Researcher\, Eno Center for Transportation \nDownload the Slides\nWatch the Recording\n\n\nLaura Barr leads a San Francisco-based team with a passion for the urban public realm and consumer trends\, innovating “retail-as-a-service\,” an approach to leasing and operations now used by top mixed-use developers and operators that demystifies the value creation for retail. As a result\, Laura and her team get involved early on and advise clients on positioning or repositioning major assets and on consumer brand growth strategy. Laura and her team have advised on several landmarks including Ghirardelli Square\, Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center\, Mission Rock with the San Francisco Giants and Tishman Speyer and the widely publicized Springline project in Menlo Park for which the retail activation strategy helped set office rent records in 2022. \nLaura served for six years on CBRE’s Americas Producer Advisory Board as its youngest member and co-chaired the Futures Committee\, which produced research on the impact of autonomous vehicles on real estate. \n  \n\n\nCharles Di Maggio leads Greystone Management Solution’s leasing and asset management teams throughout the United States. Actively involved in real estate\, management\, law and construction in both the public and private sectors for over 35 years\, Mr. Di Maggio provides our clients his broad experience in real estate law\, lease negotiation\, drafting\, retail concession development\, valuation and public sector procurement. \nPrior to joining Greystone\, Mr. Di Maggio was an executive vice president for Grenadier Realty Corp. He has also served as the City of New York’s lead housing and real estate lobbyist in Albany\, the Assistant Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and Contract Management for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development\, and as the Assistant Representative to the Board of Estimate for the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York under the administration of Edward I. Koch. \n\nSusan Fine\, principal of OasesRE and developer of the Turnstyle retail project\, has built in New York City from the ground up (and sometimes below grade)\, coordinating every step of the development process – financing\, leasing\, developing\, construction\, and management. \nMost recently\, she completed a Senior Advanced Leadership Fellowship at Harvard University where she focused on how to use “bricks and clicks” to help micro businesses thrive and lead to wealth creation. She is organizing pilot programs in Massachusetts and Chicago. A summary of these efforts is attached. \nMs. Fine completed the first privately financed project within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s subway system\, Turnstyle. According to the Wall Street Journal\, “the subterranean marketplace presents a departure from the way the MTA has handled development” and is a model for future privatization. The New York Times complimented “the density\, variety and clarity of the design” calling Turnstyle “a small scale evocation of a busy shopping street.” \n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar: Waterborne Competitiveness: Comparing U.S. and Foreign Inland Waterways
DESCRIPTION:The 12\,000-mile inland waterways network in the United States is a vital trade corridor serving energy\, agriculture\, and other freight shipments internally and for export. Major global events like the war in Ukraine and the resulting supply chain disruptions illustrate the importance of the system and create an urgent need for efficient movement of goods. Eno’s newest report compares this system with other global rivers and shows how competition from other global waterways could limit this success if modernization of the system is not continued. In this webinar\, we will explore six rivers from around the world and demonstrate how recent investments might affect America’s competitiveness and national security. \nSpeakers:\nKatie Donahue\, Policy Analyst\, Eno Center for Transportation\nPaul Lewis\, Policy Director\, Eno Center for Transportation\nTom O’Brien\, Executive Director Center for International Trade and Transportation\, California State University Long Beach \nDownload the Slides\nWatch the Recording\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar: What is next for MOD: Lessons from Los Angeles’ MOD Pilot During COVID
DESCRIPTION:In January 2019\, LA Metro launched a first-mile\, last-mile mobility on demand (MOD) pilot with Via\, offering shared rides to and from select rail transit stations. LA Metro and their partner research team collected robust data on the pilot\, and Eno published several research reports evaluating how the pilot addressed contracting\, data sharing\, fare integration and accessibility. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the MOD pilot suspended shared rides\, began allowing point-to-point rides\, and leveraged its drivers to offer food delivery to customers with difficulty accessing food banks. In this webinar\, researchers will examine data insights\, share lessons learned during the pilot’s operation during COVID\, and discuss what the region’s experience means for other agencies considering similar mobility on demand services. \nSpeakers:\nAnne Brown\, Assistant Professor in the School of Planning\, Public Policy\, and Management\, University of Oregon\nShaun Miller\, Senior Planner\, Office of Extraordinary Innovation\, Los Angeles Metro\nPaul Lewis\, Chief Finance Officer and Policy Director\, Eno Center for Transportation\n \n  \nDownload the Slides\nWatch the Recording:\n\n\n \n\nAnne Brown is an Assistant Professor in the School of Planning\, Public Policy\, and Management at the University of Oregon. SUMMARY:Webinar: Guiding the New UAS Industry to Safety Excellence
DESCRIPTION:The aviation industry and regulators are achieving many notable successes in creating effective policies to facilitate the integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems\, or UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). In Eno’s newest report\, “Guiding the New UAS Industry to Safety Excellence\,” we address two of the most urgent gaps that have yet to be resolved. These are establishing a safety culture among all users and using this culture as a stepping stone to Safety Management Systems (SMS) among commercial users. Now is the time to proactively establish smart and effective UAS safety culture and SMS policies that can work for both recreational and commercial UAS users. In this webinar\, learn how Congress and the USDOT can harness the resources already in place to establish safety culture and SMS. Such proactive measures will create a sustainable and rich safety culture and traditions for the UAS industry. \nSpeakers:\nKen Dunlap\, Managing Partner\, Catalyst-Go\nPaul Lewis\, Vice President of Policy and Finance\, Eno Center for Transportation \nDownload the Slides\nWatch the Recording:
