SUMMARY:Understanding the Travel Trends of Teens and Young Adults
DESCRIPTION:Driving has been flat or declining for much of the 2000s\, especially among the so-called Millennial Generation. Explanations for this break with a near century long driving trends abound: Young adults are rejecting the suburban\, auto-oriented lifestyles favored by their parents; a new greener ethos is motivating young people to move to cities where they travel more by foot\, bike\, and public transit; information and communications technologies have diminished the marginal utility of driving; tougher economic times have kept otherwise willing young drivers out of cars; and so on. This webinar presents the results of a multi-year study of Millennials and travel to explain what is behind the driving declines because the policy implications vary significantly depending on what is really behind these trends. \nSpeakers:\nRobert Puentes\, President and CEO\, Eno Center for Transportation\nEvelyn Blumenberg\, Professor of Urban Planning\, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs\nBrian D. SUMMARY:Delivering Modern Air Traffic Control
DESCRIPTION:Join the Eno Center for Transportation for an event on air traffic control reform. The event will be hosted by Eno President and CEO\, Robert Puentes along with former U.S. Secretary of Transportation James Burnley and former U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan. Eno aviation expert Rui Neiva will also be presenting. \nThe event is centered around Eno’s newest report – Time for Reform: Delivering Modern Air Traffic Control. The report calls for taking air traffic control out of the Federal Aviation Administration in favor of either a government corporation or an independent\, non-profit organization. It also proposes a new funding structure that relies on user fees\, rather than the current mix of taxes and general funds. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Eno Paper Release - Delivering the Goods: Recommendations for Funding a Federal Freight Program
DESCRIPTION:The Eno Center for Transportation invites you to the release of Delivering the Goods: Recommendations for Funding a Federal Freight Program. \nEno’s Freight Working Group:\nBackground\nThe United States currently lacks a comprehensive freight policy\, but over the past several years there has been substantial discussion regarding the need to develop a national program of investment in freight and goods movement. Numerous organizations have all weighed in on the need for a multimodal discretionary grant program for freight investments. However\, none of these organizations have identified a specific dedicated funding source for such a program and this remains the primary barrier to implementation. \nPurpose\nThe Eno Center for Transportation has brought together the industry’s top experts from all areas of freight to discuss how to develop a specific proposal for funding a multimodal freight program. SUMMARY:Eno Member Webinar: Ian Brown\, The Strategy and Economics of London's Major Rail Projects
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a members-only webinar with Ian Brown\, International Rail Consultant.\nTopic:\nThe Strategy and Economics of London’s Major Rail Projects \nWhen:\n10:30am – 11:00am ET\nApril 20\, 2016 \nAbout the Speaker and Presentation:\nIan Brown\, CBE BSc FCILT\nFollowing graduation from Manchester University\, Ian joined the British Railways (BR) two year Graduate Management Training program\, embarking upon a career in railways. \nIn 1984 he was appointed as Inter City Manager for the West Coast Main Line (similar in length and complexity to Amtrak’s North East Corridor) as BR moved from commercial management to full business management including operations and maintenance. \nIan transferred to the Chairman’s new Policy Unit set up to address strategic issues\, in this case how to make freight on Britain’s railways profitable following a year long coal miner’s strike. Coal had dominated rail freight in the UK as elsewhere. For his sins\, Ian was appointed as Managing Director (MD) of Railfreight Distribution to implement the reform strategy focusing on intermodal – Freightliners Ltd\, closing down wagon load operations and introducing freight trains between Britain and the Continent through the Channel Tunnel from 1994. \nBritish Rail was privatised in 1996 and following a brief spell with French Railways (SNCF) Ian was invited to join the Dockland Light Railway in London as CEO with the remit to franchise the operation of the railway and deliver a series of extensions. This eventually led to the DLR becoming the centrepiece of the 2012 Olympic Games\, the first public transport Olympic Games. \nA new transport group – Transport for London (TfL) was set up by the Mayor of London in 2001. Ian joined TfL as MD of London Rail embarking on the assimilation of main line rail services into London’s transport system and\, using a combination of new-build and existing lines\, undertook the East London Line rail project and introduced the London Overground. This was gradually extended to a circular route around London and is an enormous success. As a result the UK government finally had the confidence to give the go ahead to the large Crossrail project. \nIan was awarded a CBE on retirement in the Queen’s New Years Honours List in 2011 for services to Railways and joined the Crossrail Board as a non executive director. \nThe Eno presentation and discussion will examine these London projects\, how they came about\, the politics\, financing and funding models used and how railways became an integral part of London’s economic success story. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Convergence: The Intersection of Technology and Transportation
DESCRIPTION:Transportation options that were once only fantasies are now at our fingertips. Traffic information is available on-demand\, bicycles are commonly shared\, and the prospects for self-driving cars have been increasing. Smart phones have enabled an array of mobility options including the ability to call a personal driver at the click of a button or to crowd-source the best possible route to a given destination. Technological advancements are even on the brink of enabling same-hour delivery service via drones. \nConvergence is poised to bring together the policy-makers\, entrepreneurs\, C-level executives\, solution providers and business thought-leaders that are transforming the landscape of the transportation industry.  These stakeholders will discuss the critical issues affecting technology enabled transit\, the shared economy\, health care delivery\, and traveler information\, among other key topics. Participants will have the opportunity to compare their successes\, challenges\, and new models and discuss their policy implications in a collaborative\, yet focused setting. \nConvergence: noun con•ver•gence kənˈvərjən(t)s the merging of distinct technologies\, industries\, or devices into a unified whole \nConvergence will be much more than a multi-modal transportation summit; Eno is setting the stage for a dynamic day-long event packed with expert-led panels\, one-on-one executive exchanges\, thought-leadership sessions\, case studies from our research and a vision for future policy based upon best practices. Open dialogue will be encouraged throughout the day to maximize idea sharing and ensure productivity.  Participants will not only have the opportunity to learn\, share\, and debate; they will make key industry contacts. \nThe summit’s strategic agenda is designed to maximize efficiency and offer unique insight into present and future challenges facing solutions providers and policy-makers in the transportation industry. We hope you will partner with us as we dissect and address the modern realities that are shaping the very near future of transportation. \n\nLearn more about Eno’s Digital Cities project here \nLearn more about sponsorship opportunities here \n\n\n\n\n8:00 AM- 9:00 AM  \nBreakfast Available\n\n\n9:00 AM- 9:30AM\nWelcome and Presentation  \n\nEmil Frankel\, Interim Eno President and CEO\nComments by Incoming Eno President and CEO\, Rob Puentes\n\nPresentation and summary of Eno’s Digital Cities program\, goals\, and expected outcomes \n\nPaul Lewis\, Vice President of Policy and Finance\, Eno Center\n\nUpdate on USDOT’s Smart Cities Challenge \n\n\nMark Dowd\, Deputy Assistant Secretary\, Office of Research and Technology\, USDOT \n\n\n\n\n\n9:30 AM- 10:45 AM \n(Sessions A & B)\n(Session A) Transit’s Technological Revolution \nThe use of technology is transforming the traditional models of taxis and transit. Technology is moving us away from the era of the street hail\, to the dawn of hailing through mobile applications.
