SUMMARY:Webinar: Transportation Debt: How Much is Too Much?
DESCRIPTION:In the face of shifting travel patterns\, rising costs\, and increased interest rates\, transportation agencies and local governments are grappling with a crucial question. Can they continue to borrow billions of dollars for airport\, transit\, highway\, and port improvements\, and do they have any practical alternatives? \nJoin our panel of transportation finance experts as we explore the impacts of mounting debt on public agencies and their private partners. Find out if they are borrowing too much\, and whether it is affecting their ability to undertake vital projects and provide important services. This webinar delves into a critical and timely discussion about selecting sustainable funding solutions for infrastructure improvements. \nSpeakers: \nCaitlin Devitt\, Senior Reporter\, The Bond Buyer \nBaye Larsen\,Vice President/Senior Credit Officer\, Moody’s Investors Service \nScott Monroe\, Senior Director\, Fitch Ratings \nScott Trommer\, Senior Vice President\, WSP\n \nModerator: \nPhilip Plotch\, Principal Researcher\, Eno Center for Transportation

SUMMARY:Webinar: Shifting Gears: Toward a New Way of Thinking about Transportation with Dr. Susan Handy
DESCRIPTION:The transportation system in the U.S. has been shaped by a core set of ideas that are embedded in professional practice. These ideas – freedom\, speed\, mobility\, vehicles\, capacity\, hierarchy\, separation\, control\, and technology – have produced a system in which most people are dependent on driving\, with all the negative consequences that entails. Shifting to a system that offers people choices about their daily travel requires a shift in thinking on the part of the transportation profession. In this talk\, I take a critical look at the way of thinking that\, for the last century\, has shaped our transportation system and consider the ways in which that thinking is – and is not – shifting. \nDownload the Slides:\nWatch the Recording:\n\nSpeaker:  \nSusan Handy\, Distinguished Professor of Environmental Science and Policy Director\, National Center for Sustainable Transportation University of California\, Davis \nModerator: \nAndrea Hamre\, Director of Policy & Research\, Eno Center for Transportation

SUMMARY:Success Factors in Private Contracting for Public Transportation
DESCRIPTION:Service contracting is a tool that public transit agencies can use to deliver transit services for riders. Contracting is widely employed in the United States; nearly two-thirds of transit agencies already contract all or part of their operations. When contracting is implemented effectively and strategically\, it can yield service improvements that benefit the riding public and\, in some cases\, lower costs. It can enable governance overhauls whose impacts may go far beyond increased service reliability by creating more adaptable\, sustainable public institutions. \nTransit agencies are facing unprecedented challenges including lower ridership\, declining revenues\, higher costs\, intense competition\, and workforce management issues. In response\, transit agencies are exploring new and innovative ways to engage with private partners to address these challenges. \nThis webinar will feature public and private stakeholders to discuss success factors for transit service contracting\, given the current context. To read more on this topic\, see Eno’s recent paper on Success Factors in Private Contracting for Public Transportation. \n\n\n\nWatch the recording
