SUMMARY:The Second Avenue Subway: Next Stop in Harlem
DESCRIPTION:On November 9\, the Eno Center for Transportation and the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College are co-hosting a panel discussion in New York City to discuss the status of the Second Avenue Subway project. \nThe Second Avenue Subway is one of the most ambitious\, expensive\, and closely watched transportation project in the United States. More than a century in the making\, it offers important lessons about controlling costs\, managing complex construction projects\, and maintaining public support. As New York moves forward with the next phase of construction\, the project raises questions with national implications: How can major transit projects be delivered more efficiently\, and what can other cities learn from New York’s successes and setbacks? \nThe event will feature MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer\, former Program Executive Bill Goodrich\, Community Board Chair Adem Brija\, and former Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.  Eno’s principal researcher\, Philip Plotch\, will moderate. \nDate and Time: Monday November 9\, 2026 at 6 PM. \nLocation: Roosevelt House.  47-49 West 65th Street\, New York\, NY 10023 \nFor more information and to register for this free in-person event or watch online\, see https://www.roosevelthouse.hunter.cuny.edu/events/next-stop-harlem/

SUMMARY:After the Midterms: Transportation Planning and the Political Landscape
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 midterm elections will reshape the political landscape in Washington and across the country. \nWhat will the results mean for transportation planning\, policy\, and investment? This webinar\, co-sponsored by the Eno Center for Transportation and the American Planning Association (APA)\, will feature a conversation with Jason Jordan (Principal\, Public Affairs) at the APA. Jordan will look back at the past two years of federal policy and political developments affecting transportation planners and consider how the changing political landscape could shape transportation policy and planning in the future. \nThe discussion will examine changes in congressional leadership and priorities\, the outlook for federal transportation funding and programs\, and emerging debates over infrastructure investment and the federal role in transportation planning. \n \n\nJason Jordan is the Principal of Public Affairs for the APA\, where he leads the organization’s government relations\, advocacy networks\, and public policy strategies. Based in Washington\, D.C.\, he serves as the primary liaison between the planning community and federal lawmakers\, congressional staff\, and national partner organizations. Jordan’s work centers on advancing legislative priorities that support sustainable communities\, housing affordability\, zoning reform\, and federal infrastructure investments. He plays a key role in developing the APA’s national policy guides and empowering local chapters to engage in effective advocacy. \nPhilip Plotch\, Eno’s principal researcher and senior fellow\, will interview Jason and take questions from the webinar’s attendees. \n\n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Intercity Buses at a Crossroads
DESCRIPTION:Intercity buses connect cities\, towns\, and rural communities\, providing affordable transportation for millions of Americans. Although they carry more passengers than Amtrak\, intercity buses receive far less public attention. The industry is now evolving as private operators rethink their services and business models\, and governments reassess their support for routes and stations. At the same time\, intercity bus operators face challenges posed by rising costs\, changing travel patterns\, and intensifying competition. \nWhat is happening in the intercity bus industry today\, and what does the future hold? This Eno webinar brings together experts from the bus industry\, state government\, and academia to examine current trends and challenges\, as well as opportunities for expanding service\, attracting passengers\, improving the travel experience\, and shaping the industry’s future. \n\n\n  \n \n  \nPanelists\nFred Ferguson\, President and CEO\, American Bus Association \nFred leads the American Bus Association Marketplace\, the National Bus Traffic Association\, and major advocacy efforts. A former Vista Outdoor executive and U.S. House chief of staff\, he’s managed $3 billion in M&A communications\, directed national corporate social responsibility strategy\, and testified before Congress. Ferguson holds an MBA from Oklahoma State University. Outside of work\, he enjoys family time and supports his family’s two stationery stores\, Every Little Something\, in Middleburg and Leesburg\, Virginia. \nNina Stocker\, Manager of the Travel Washington Intercity Bus Program\, Washington State Department of Transportation \nNina has served as the program manager and lead transportation planner for the statewide intercity bus program at the Washington State Department of Transportation since 2019. The Travel Washington Intercity Bus Program aims to connect rural communities to major transportation hubs and urban centers through public-private partnerships. She is a recognized voice on intercity bus policy and practice at the national level and has led intercity bus sessions at the National Rural Transit Assistance Program conference and the annual Community Transportation Association of America Expo. Nina currently chairs the Intercity Bus Subcommittee for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). She holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from Eastern Washington University. Stocker is committed to expanding transportation access and strengthening Washington’s role in national mobility.\n\nJoseph Schwieterman\, Professor\, DePaul University\, and editor of Intercity Bus E-News. \nJoseph is the director of the university’s Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development\, which studies public policy\, transportation\, and urban planning. He has authored more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles on the development of cities and transportation. Dr. Schwieterman edits Intercity Bus E-News\, a newsletter on scheduled city-to-city bus travel\, now in its eighth year.. His most recent book is Terminal Town: An Illustrated Guide to Chicago’s Airports\, Bus Depots\, Train Stations\, and Steamship Landings\, 1939 – Present\, available through Northwestern University Press.
